UChicago softball falls twice to Wisconsin-Oshkosh and Union

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla. – The University of Chicago softball team fell victim to a pair of big innings that helped decide the games, losing to University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh 4-3 and Union (N.Y.) College 7-1 on Sunday.

The Maroons dropped their record to 1-3 on the year.

Game One – Wisconsin-Oshkosh 4, UChicago 3

After an error put the lead-off runner on base to start the second inning, freshman designated player Alyssa Stolmack got UChicago going with a double to right field. Freshman outfielder Sara Koniewicz then singled to drive in the opening run.

The Titans then plated a quartet of runs in the bottom half of the second. Two errors in the outfield helped bring around all four runs over the course of the frame. The Maroons struck back to get within 4-3 in the third inning. The team loaded the bases and scored two on junior pitcher Jordan Poole's hard single. However, UChicago could not find the tying run down the stretch.

The Maroons knocked 11 hits but made four errors on defense. Junior first baseman Kathleen Kohm went 3-for-4 at the plate and junior shortstop Kristin Lopez was 2-for-3. Poole (1-1) took the loss in six innings, allowing seven hits, four unearned runs and one walk while striking out seven.

Game Two – Union 7, UChicago 1

Union broke out early with six runs in the second inning. The first three runners got on via hit-by-pitch, and they all came around to score on a fielder's choice, wild pitch and another hit-by-pitch. A bases-clearing triple pushed the lead to 6-0.

A sacrifice fly by the Dutchwomen added another run in the third inning. UChicago got onto the scoreboard in the sixth inning on a single to account for the final 7-1 margin.

Stolmack and freshman catcher Olivia Haney both went 2-for-3 at the plate. The Maroons totaled eight hits and one error.

Freshman pitcher Molly Moran (0-1) was the losing pitcher. Moran started the first two innings, surrendering six runs on one hit and two walks with one strikeout. Sophomore Alexa Hanelin tossed one inning with one run and two walks. Senior Tabbetha Bohac put up four scoreless innings of relief with one hit, three walks and five strikeouts.
