Game One – UChicago 8, Elmhurst 6
The visitors struck first in the scoring column with a trio in the top of the third inning. Sophomore second baseman Anna Woolery struck a RBI single to draw first blood, and sophomore outfielder Maggie O'Hara followed right after with a two-run double.
The Bluejays responded immediately with four runs in their half of the inning, which came on a single, triple and squeeze bunt. Elmhurst added to its tally with a two-run single in the bottom of the fifth.
Down 6-3, UChicago rallied hard in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded and two outs, freshman outfielder Sara Koniewicz poked a two-run single through the right side. Junior outfielder Devan Parkison added a RBI single of her own and Woolery smacked a two-run double to put the Maroons ahead 8-6.
Junior pitcher Jordan Poole made sure that the lead held up and stranded a runner on third base to end the game. The right hander improved her season record to 7-8 in a complete-game effort. Her pitching line included six runs, 10 hits, one walk and six strikeouts.
