MOLINE, Ill. – The University of Chicago men's tennis team wrapped up an unbeaten weekend with a 9-0 victory over Augustana College on Sunday.
The No. 6-ranked Maroons improved to 3-0 and dropped the Vikings to 2-1.
UChicago has now won 17 of 18 singles matches during its three dual meets so far this year. The Maroons did not lose a set over the weekend with clean sweeps of both Coe and Augustana by 9-0 margins.
The multiple winners on the day were freshman Charlie Pei and junior Sven Kranz in both singles and doubles. Freshman Jonathan Li posted a shutout at No. 6 singles (6-0, 6-0). Kranz at No. 2, freshman Max Liu at No. 4 and sophomore Michael Selin at No. 5 all won with only one game surrendered during straight-set wins.
"For the second-straight day, we really brought some great energy in singles and continued to do a good job of owning the baseline and looking for opportunities to move forward to the net," said Head Coach Jay Tee. "I can really see improvement in each and every player from one day to the next, which is good because it's a long season and we are a young team. We now have to gear up to get back to work this week before we host two very good teams next weekend."
