Box Score ANGOLA, Ind. – The University of Chicago softball team reached the NCAA Regional final on Saturday before ending their season with a 15-3 loss to host Trine University.
The No. 25-ranked Maroons finished with a 27-10 record for the second-most wins in program history. The 2004 Maroons own the best mark at 29-11. The Thunder (33-12) advanced to the NCAA Super Regional round.
At the conclusion of the weekend regional, UChicago had three players named to the All-Tournament Team: sophomore pitcher Molly Moran, senior shortstop Kristin Lopez and senior pitcher Jordan Poole.
Trine's bats held sway in the afternoon contest with 13 hits. An eight-run second inning featured three home runs by the Thunder, who also tallied five more runs in the fifth inning.
UChicago got onto the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. Singles by junior third base Maggie O'Hara and freshman second base Colleen Bennett put a pair of runners on before Poole cracked a two-run single down the right field line.
In the bottom of the fifth, Maroon seniors Lopez and first base Kathleen Kohm both singled and a subsequent groundout put them in scoring position. Freshman outfielder Maeve Garvey's grounder plated Lopez for the RBI.
UChicago utilized three pitchers – sophomore Molly Moran (1.1 IP, 7 R, 6 H, 3 K); freshman Jordyne Prussak (0.2 IP, 2 R, 1 H, 1 BB); and Poole (3 IP, 4 ER, 6 H, 5 BB, 8 K). The defense committed six errors in the contest.
Offensively, the Maroons knocked eight hits and Lopez led the way with a 3-for-3 performance.
UChicago's four-member senior class – Poole, Kohm, Lopez and outfielder Devan Parkison – ended its run with 85 wins and two trips to the NCAA postseason.
