CLERMONT, Fla. – The University of Chicago softball team rebounded from a loss to Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a close 7-6 win over Wellesley in a two-game day Friday in Florida.

UCHICAGO 7, WELLESLEY 6
The Maroons evened their record with a late rally to defeat the Blue (0-1) in UChicago's second game Friday.

Trailing 6-4 after Wellesley put together back-to-back three-run innings in the third and fourth frames, UChicago (5-5) responded with two runs in the top of the fifth. Maeve Garvey, Holli Jones, and Skye Collins singled in order to set up a bases-loaded, no-out situation for first-year Abby Hayes.

The rookie delivered, belting an RBI-single to right field and teammate Serena Moss followed with an RBI-single to tie the game at 6-all.

Collins would later play the hero in the top of the sixth, singling to the pitcher to score Christie Ambrose, who pinch ran for Carly Schulz (single).

The Maroons got out of a runners on the corners situation in the bottom of the frame and Megan Stoppleman closed the game with her substitution in the bottom of the seventh, forcing the Blues into three-straight groundouts to seal the win and earn the save.

Starter Jordyne Prussak recorded the win, scattering 10 hits, walking two and striking out two for the Maroons.

Jones was hot offensively, finishing 3-for-4 and five players – Schulz, Garvey, Collins, Hayes and Colleen Bennett – had two hits each. Bennett also added her team's lone extra base hit with a double and added three RBI, accounting for the Maroons' first three runs of the game.

UChicago totaled 15 hits in the win, which matched its season high.

WISCONSIN-OSHKOSH 10, UCHICAGO 2
UW-Oshkosh kept the Maroons off the board in the final five innings in Friday's first contest.

UChicago matched the Titans (13-6) in the game's first two frames, as Maeve Garvey singled in the bottom of the first inning to score Emma Nelson (single) to knot the score at 1-all after one. After the Titans scored an unearned run in the top of the second, Skye Collins (double) evened the game again  by scoring on a wild pitch.

But UW-Oshkosh would score two runs in the fourth and then three in the fifth to blow open the game and take a 7-2 advantage. The Titans added one run in the sixth and two more in the top of the seventh to create the game's final score.

UChicago totaled 11 hits to UW-Oshkosh's 15, led by two hits each from Serena Moss, Schulz, Garvey, and Holli Jones, who had a double.

Molly Moran took the loss in the circle, striking out a game-high seven. Only six of the 10 runs were earned.
