Box Score ATLANTA – A final-minute goal bit the University of Chicago men's soccer team on Saturday as the Maroons lost 2-1 on the road at Emory University in the conference opener.
The Maroons dropped to 6-3-1 overall and 0-1 in the University Athletic Association (UAA). The No. 18-ranked Eagles improved to 5-1-2 (1-0 UAA).
A quiet first half saw no goals for either side. Junior Griffin Wada came the closest by striking the crossbar with his attempt in the 31st minute.
The day's first score arrived at the 62:35 mark. A long through ball by fifth-year senior Ben Brandt found sophomore Ryan Yetishefsky for a close-range goal.
Yetishefsky nearly doubled UChicago's lead five minutes later. But his shot caromed off the post.
Emory was able to steal the game away with a pair of late goals. Charlie Scruton was responsible for both tallies, first in the 84th minute and then again with only one minute left in regulation.
The Maroons held a 12-9 edge in total shots, and a 5-1 margin in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Calvin Walters (4-3-1 record) took the loss with two saves and two goals allowed.
