Box Score 2 CHICAGO – The University of Chicago softball team fell victim to dominant Calvin University pitching on Saturday afternoon as the visitors won a pair of games 8-0 and 6-1 at Stagg Field.
The Maroons dropped to 7-14 on the season while the Knights improved to 21-7.
Game One – Calvin 8, UChicago 0 (5 innings)
Calvin took control from the outset, scoring twice in the first and second innings. The Knights added four more in the top of the fourth and eventually ended the game via run rule after five innings.
UChicago's one hit came courtesy junior Lainey Hughes, who doubled to left field in the bottom of the fourth. The Maroon defense committed three errors.
Junior pitcher Bethany Regnerus took the loss (2-3 record) in two innings with three earned runs allowed. First-years Delaney Choi (1 IP, 2 ER) and Delaney Romanchick (2 IP, 1 R) made relief appearances in the circle.
Game Two – Calvin 6, UChicago 1
The second game saw Calvin draw ahead 3-0 through two innings. The visitors would then tack on one in the fourth and two in the seventh. The Knights' shutout innings streak was ended in the bottom of the seventh, when Maroon sophomore pitcher Elizabeth Press cranked a solo home run to right center.
Press (3-4 record) tossed all seven innings with seven hits, three earned runs, two walks and five strikeouts to her credit. UChicago made three errors in the field.
