Box Score CHICAGO – In the final match of the Gargoyle Classic on Saturday afternoon, the University of Chicago volleyball team rolled to its second sweep in two days by downing St. Olaf College by a 3-0 margin.
The No. 9-ranked Maroons improved to 2-0. The Oles dropped to 1-2.
UChicago's defense was a strength all match long. The hosts racked up 11 team blocks in three sets and limited St. Olaf to a miniscule .043 hitting percentage. Junior Ellie Alden racked up six blocks on her own, senior Audra Berg put up five blocks and first-year Emma Lotts contributed four blocks.
On the other side of the net, the Maroons ran a balanced offense that converted at a .266 clip. Alden hit .571 in the match with eight kills. Sophomore Ella Mao was the team's kills leader with nine, while adding eight digs defensively.
The Maroons snagged all three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-20 and 25-17. The miscues piled up for St. Olaf in the third set – the visitors committed 12 attack errors versus nine kills. For the entire match, UChicago only committed seven total attack errors.
Senior Temilade Adekoya collected 13 digs from the libero position. The setter duo of junior Maddie Ryan and sophomore Maya Patel combined for 26 assists and 10 digs.
