BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The University of Chicago softball team wrapped up action at the Illinois Wesleyan University Softball Tournament on Sunday with losses to Illinois College and IWU.

The Maroons dropped to 4-9 on the season.

Game One – Illinois College 4, UChicago 1

UChicago started promisingly in the top of the first inning. Sophomore Alina Yazek led off the game with a double, then the Maroons loaded the bases with a walk and a hit-by-pitch. Senior Savannah Pinedo then drew a walk of her own to force in a run.

However, Illinois College struck back right away in the bottom half of the inning. The Lady Blues went ahead 2-1 on a wild pitch and an error with two outs. IC went on to score again in the third and sixth innings with RBI groundouts.

UChicago was limited to two hits in the game while committing three errors. Pinedo earned three walks in the contest.

First-year Paige Heffke (2-5 record) threw six innings in the circle. Her pitching line included six hits, three earned runs, three walks and eight strikeouts.

Game Two – Illinois Wesleyan 6, UChicago 1

The Maroons scored first once again in the opening inning. Yazek singled to center and scored three batters later on Pinedo's sacrifice fly.

The Titans kept UChicago off the scoreboard the rest of the way while scoring twice themselves in the third, fifth and seventh innings.

In the box score, the Maroons finished with six hits and one error. Junior Lola Fisher went 3-for-3 at the plate.

Sophomore Delaney Romanchick (1-3 record) was the losing pitcher in a complete-game effort. She allowed five earned runs with two walks and two strikeouts.
