Box Score 2 HOLLAND, Mich. – The University of Chicago softball team lost both ends of a road doubleheader at Hope College on Tuesday afternoon.
The Maroons fell to 4-11 on the year. The Flying Dutch improved to 9-5.
Game One – Hope 9, UChicago 1 (5 innings)
The hosts jumped on UChicago right out of the gate and kept adding to their advantage as the game progressed. Hope loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning and proceeded to score four runs in the frame. The Flying Dutch then hit a three-run homer in the third inning and added one more in the fourth and fifth innings to end the game via run rule.
An outfield error in the top of the third helped the Maroons get their lone run. The visitors were limited to three hits while making one defensive error.
Sophomore pitcher Delaney Romanchick (1-4 record) took the loss after one inning of work. Sophomore Delaney Choi (1.2 IP, 3 R) and senior Bethany Regnerus (2 IP, 1 ER, 2 K) finished off the game in relief.
Game Two – Hope 2, UChicago 0
The Flying Dutch bookended their scoring in the nightcap with one run in the bottom of the first and another in the bottom of the sixth. The Maroons put runners in scoring position in the fourth and sixth inning, but they ultimately couldn't crack the scoreboard against the Hope pitchers.
UChicago finished with three hits and two errors. Senior Savannah Pinedo doubled and drew a walk. Senior Jules Waller went 2-for-4 combined in the two games.
First-year Paige Heffke (2-6 record) went six innings in the pitching circle. She allowed one earned run and struck out three batters.
