WALTHAM, Mass. – University of Chicago women's soccer hopped back into UAA play after a big non-conference win against Illinois Tech on Monday when they battled Brandeis in their first road contest since September 23
rd. The match looked like it would end in a stalemate before a late goal gave the Maroons their first conference victory of the season on Saturday.
RESULT
University of Chicago – 1
Brandeis – 0
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The University of Chicago (9-2-3, 1-1-1 UAA) dominated the first half, outshooting Brandeis (6-4-3, 0-3 UAA) 5-0 and earning the opening frame's lone corner kick. However, not a single one of those shots would get past the Judges' keeper in a scoreless period.
- Brandeis found their offense in the second stanza and turned the tables on the Maroons by outshooting them 10-6. Four of those shots found their way to UChicago's keeper Sophie Pilarski but the junior denied each attempt to keep the win within reach.
- It looked like the Maroons would have to settle for their second tie of conference play with time ticking down, but they finally lit up the scoreboard in the 86th minute. Sophomore Mary Stuart Kerrigan set up Hannah Rittenhouse for the senior's third game winner of the year as UChicago earns the thrilling 1-0 decision.
