Women's Soccer Battles No. 6 CWRU To 1-1 Tie

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Winners of their last two contests, University of Chicago women's soccer rolled into Cleveland looking to create a certified winning streak. Though they weren't able to come away with the victory in their third straight match, the Maroons went blow for blow against the number six team in the country and came away with a 1-1 tie against Case Western for their efforts.

RESULT
(RV) University of Chicago – 1
No. 6 Case Western Reserve – 1

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • (RV) University of Chicago (9-2-4, 1-1-2 UAA) knew that they were getting themselves into a slugfest with a No. 6 Case Western Reserve (10-0-3, 2-0-2 UAA) team that had allowed just five goals to their opponents all season long, but that didn't do anything to deter the Maroons effort.
  • UChicago would have to play from behind starting in the 22nd minute though when the Spartans took the 1-0 lead off a rebound goal. However, it didn't take the Maroons long to even things up. Kamiryn Grimes set up Mary Stuart Kerrigan 14 minutes later to tie the match at 1-1.
  • It was all defense after Kerrigan's strike though. UChicago got just two shots off towards the net in the contest while they held CWRU to seven of their own. Keeper Sophie Pilarski stopped six shots including an attempt that threatened to give the Spartans the lead late in the Maroons fourth tie of the season.
