PITTSBURGH, Penn. – University of Chicago men's soccer went into Sunday's game against Carnegie Mellon looking to do anything to find the scoresheet. After three straight contests without a goal, the Maroons had their highest scoring game of the season to finish off their road trip on a high note with a three goal win against the Tartans.
RESULT
No. 24 University of Chicago – 5
Carnegie Mellon – 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was only a matter of time until No. 24 University of Chicago (7-2-5, 2-1-2 UAA) lit up the scoreboard again but the Maroons did so in dominating fashion against Carnegie Mellon (7-5-3, 0-3-2 UAA). The barrage of goals started early on with a Ryan Yetishefsky strike from Kai Walsh in the 10th minute, after which they sandwiched a Tartans goal with a Lyndon Hu tally at 31:19.
- Up 2-1, UChicago did most of their damage in the second half. Yetishefsky earned his second of the game in the 52nd minute when Hu threaded the needle with a pass and snuck the ball past the diving CMU keeper. David Martin then connected with Vanni Olla just before the 68th minute from 25-yards out to make it 4-1 good guys.
- The Maroons closed out their end of the scoring at 76:08 with a Jadyn Hsieh-Bailey strike from Ryan Shea, and while Carnegie Mellon responded to that goal just over a minute later, it was much too little too late in the UChicago 5-2 victory.
