CHICAGO – It was Senior Day on the grass surface at Stagg Field and the (RV) University of Chicago women's soccer team celebrated their departing teammates with a pregame ceremony. The team would have liked to end their final home game of the regular season on a high note but the Maroons couldn't find the go ahead goal against Emory in a 1-1 tie on Saturday.
RESULT
Emory – 1
(RV) University of Chicago – 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- (RV) University of Chicago (9-2-6, 1-1-4 UAA) hoped to set the pace to start off play against Emory (8-4-4, 1-3-2 UAA), but the Eagles took the games first six shots. Unfortunately, the last of the half dozen found its way past the Maroons keeper to put UChicago down 1-0 in the 14th minute.
- It looked like the score would stay that way to begin the second half but Avery Gallucci evened things up with 33 seconds left before the intermission to provide a clean slate after halftime.
- Each team took a total of 10 shots in the second frame of play, but it was a free attempt that was the turning point in the contest. UChicago was given a penalty kick opportunity with under ten minutes remaining but the attempt was saved, and the contest stayed deadlocked.
- The Eagles and Maroons took one shot each with the time remaining, but with the score still at 1-1 after 90 minutes, UChicago was forced to settle for their sixth tie of the season.
