HOW IT HAPPENED
- University of Chicago (4-4, 4-3 MWC) came out of the gate firing on all cylinders and scored on their very first possession. Rhys Bommarito-Logan found an opening and dashed to the endzone for his first touchdown of the game just 1:38 into the contest. The Maroons third drive of the afternoon also ended in seven points when Jack Ruff hit Diego Solis for a 40-yard passing score, and Stirling Sakashita made it 21-0 UChicago before the first frame came to a close with a 34-yard pick six.
- The next two quarters each featured a pair of touchdowns. Bommarito-Logan made it 28-0 Maroons during the opening drive of the second with a two-yard run and Michael Markett, one of four quarterbacks UChicago used on the afternoon, connected with Aiden Mandell for a 15-yard touchdown to put the home team up by five scores.
- Bommarito-Logan began the action in the third stanza with his final scoring run of the contest, this one being from five yards out. The senior finished with a total of 227 yards of rushing offense. Teddy Gouldin and Aden Nava joined in on the fun with just under two minutes to go before the fourth quarter for a 36-yard touchdown pass and Markett closed out the scoring for the Maroons in the final period with a 13-yard toss to Ned Stimpson.
- It wasn't just all about the offense though. The defense was outstanding, holding Lawrence (0-8, 0-7 MWC) to 191 total yards which included a net rushing total of negative seven. The Maroons sacked the Vikings quarterback eight times for a loss of 54 yards and caused the visitors to convert only two of their 13 third down attempts in a 55-12 thrashing over their Midwest Conference rival.
