CHICAGO – University of Chicago football was looking to run their winning streak to three games when they welcomed Illinois College to Stagg Field. Unfortunately, it was a tale of two halves as the Maroons couldn't find the scoreboard in the final two quarters during a 21-point loss.
RESULT
Illinois College – 41
University of Chicago – 20
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Illinois College (4-1, 3-1 MWC) were the first to get on the board in this Midwest Conference battle with an 85-yard touchdown pass with 11:20 to go in the opening quarter. However, University of Chicago (2-3, 2-2 MWC) was quick to respond. Jack Ruff connected with Diego Solis on a 16-yard completion to tie things at 7-7.
- UChicago would score again less than three minutes into the second quarter off a 41-yard field goal from kicker Will Goodman while Rhys Bommarito-Logan negated a Blueboys touchdown with a 53-yard dash to make it 17-14 Maroons. Goodman then put another kick through the uprights, this time from 42-yards out to send the two teams into the intermission with UChicago holding a six-point advantage.
- The offense could never find a rhythm in the second half though while IC scored 27 unanswered points. The Blueboys were then able to milk time off the clock for most of the fourth quarter in what ended up being a 21-point Maroon defeat.
