CHICAGO – After a tough UAA loss on Saturday, the University of Chicago women's soccer team welcomed a local foe in Illinois Tech to campus with their sights set on getting back into the win column. It was a tense game throughout but a dominant second half and a two goal performance from one of their veterans gave the Maroons a 3-2 win on Monday afternoon.
RESULT
Illinois Tech – 2
University of Chicago – 3
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Illinois Tech (11-2-1) tried to set the pace early on with a goal in the 5th minute, and while it took them some time, the University of Chicago (8-2-3) evened things up when Avery Gallucci took advantage of a rebound with the Scarlett Hawks keeper down at 34:11.
- The Maroons took their first lead of the afternoon in the 58th minute when Hannah Rittenhouse got UChicago's second bounce back tally of the game, but an own goal just moments later evened the match back up again at 2-2.
- Rittenhouse, who was the target of the IIT defense for most of the day, got the last laugh and used a tough angled shot during a breakaway to put the Maroons up for good with just seven minutes left.
- UChicago outshot the Scarlett Hawks 17-9 overall and 9-2 in the second half as they secured the win in their last non-conference game of the year.
