GEORGETOWN, Texas – University of Chicago men's basketball headed out for an all too familiar road game after a brief stop at the Ratner Athletic Center when they traveled south to Texas for a two game swing. They opened the trip with a battle against Southwestern University, but the Maroons showed no jet lag as they dominated the Pirates from start to finish in a 25-point victory.
FINAL SCORE
UChicago – 70
Southwestern – 45
HOW IT HAPPENED
- University of Chicago (8-2) trailed for just 1:31 in Tuesday night's contest. Down 3-0, a Bryce Hopkins three pointer and a jumper in the paint from Joe Berry gave the Maroons a 5-3 lead, one that they would not relinquish the rest of the contest.
- Southwestern (0-11) was able to tie the game once and stayed within one possession for the majority of the first half before UChicago scored 16 of the last 26 points in the period to grab a nine tally advantage heading into halftime. The lead came after shooting just 36.3 percent in the opening 20 minutes.
- The Maroons really opened things up in the second stanza, bumping their shooting percentage from the field up to 53.8 percent which including nine successful attempts from behind the arc. An Omotola Olorode free throw with 40 seconds left matched Chicago's largest lead of the game at 25 points and was just one of the 29 tallies that the bench contributed in the blowout victory against the Pirates.
