The Maroons fell late in the opening game, 7-6 in 10 innings, before dropping the second contest, 7-2.
Game One
Calvin got out to an early 4-0 advantage after 2.5 innings, but the Maroons responded with two runs in the bottom of the third on RBI singles from Olivia Cataldo and Madeline Murphy. After the Knights plated one more in the top of the fourth, UChicago took its first lead in the bottom half with a four-run inning.
Anna Jensen singled home the Maroons' first run before a Calvin error on that same play allowed a second UChicago run to come home. With the Maroons trailing by one, Julia Folkl's RBI groundout evened the score at 5-all. Cataldo then singled home Jensen to put the Maroons up 6-5 after four.
Calvin, however, responded with a homer in the top of the fifth, setting the stage for extra innings. Neither side could plate a runner in the following four innings, but the Knights pushed one across in the top of the tenth to go ahead 7-6 and then secured the win, stranding one Maroon baserunner in the bottom of the tenth.
