Box Score 2 MILWAUKEE, Wis. – University of Chicago's softball program swept Wisconsin Lutheran College on the road on Wednesday.
The Maroons won 8-3 in the opening game and held off WLC in game two with a 6-5 victory.
Game One
Paige Heffke (12-3) earned the win with 5.0 innings pitched and allowing just one earned run. Laila Sims started the scoring for the Maroon offense early with a lead-off homer. Julia Folkl also had an RBI in the first with a double that scored Anna Jensen.
The Maroons broke the game open in the fourth with four runs, which included RBI from Sims and Jensen. Sims finished the game 3-for-4 with three RBI, a walk and a run scored.
Jensen went 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBI in support. Nicole Wong and Katelyn Ohlde also had one RBI each. Wong came on in relief of Heffke and gave up two runs in 2.0 innings to finish off the win.
Game Two
The Marooons trailed 2-0 early, but scored five combined runs in the third and fourth innings to pull in front. WLC answered with one run in its half of both the fourth and fifth before the Maroons plated one for insurance in the seventh with an RBI groundout from Ohlde.
Heffke came in to close the door after a WLC homer in the bottom of the seventh to complete the sweep. UChicago took advantage of some Warriors miscues in the game as only one of six Maroon runs were earned.
Clare Fortier and Ava Sinai joined Ohlde for the three UChicago RBI. Sinai had three hits to lead the offense and the Maroons stole six bases in the game. Delaney Choi (7-0) earned the win in relief of Delaney Romanchick.
UChicago will take on Wheaton on the road on Thursday, April 27 at 4:30 p.m. CT.
