JOLIET, Ill. – The University of Chicago outdoor track & field teams submitted more high national marks at the University of St. Francis Fighting Chance Invite on Friday and Saturday.
In the final weeks before the NCAA national meet, the Maroons continued their push to qualify additional athletes and bolster their seedings.
Gabriela Meschino took runner-up in the 100 meters with a wind-aided time of 11.70 (top five nationally) and third in the 200 meters with a wind-aided time of 24.69 (top 30 nationally). Loren Brown was third in the 100-meter hurdles with a wind-aided time of 14.12 (14th nationally). Brown then posted an even stronger time in the 400-meter hurdles with the seventh-best time in Division III at 1:01.19 to take second.
Caitlin Jorgensen grabbed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:55.03 (21st nationally). UChicago secured the second, third and fourth placements in the 5,000 meters with Anna Kenig-Ziesler (16:48.23), Katarina Birimac (16:58.90) and Frances Schaeffler (17:03.21).
Maya Ordonez's third-place time in the 800 meters moved her up to 18th in the nation (2:12.14). Molly Laumakis improved her shot-put distance with a third-place showing of 13.70 meters (18th nationally).
The 4x100-meter relay team of Camila Garanton, Gabriela Meschino, Izzy Layne and Maddie Lyons took fourth in 46.93, moving up to 13th nationally in the process. Selah Dungey was a third-place finisher in the high jump at 1.56 meters.
On the men's side, Simon Dixon led the way once again with a winning throw of 16.25 meters in the shot put. Aryan Shrivastava took runner-up in the high jump with a height of 1.85 meters. Andrew Ray was third in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.90.
Two other Maroons moved up the national rankings as well in distance races. Joe Lemna went 3:48.65 in the 1,500 meters (28th nationally) and Jack Barbour posted 9:10.49 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (33rd nationally).
