Football Rolls to 63-0 Win over Knox

CHICAGO – University of Chicago's football program picked up its first win of 2023 on Saturday in a convincing 63-0 defeat of Knox College at home.

UChicago marched down the field for a 92-yard touchdown drive on its first possession and never looked back, leading 44-0 at the half on its way to a shutout victory. The Maroons secured their first win of the 2023 season and the first in Midwest Conference (MWC) play to improve to 1-1 in conference play and 1-2 overall.

Jack Ruff completed all 13 of his passing attempts and finished with 173 yards through the air and two passing TDs. Michael Markett and Teddy Gouldin performed well in relief of Ruff, combining to go 9-for-10 with 137 passing yards and two passing TDs.

Aden Nava was the recipient of many of those Maroon passes, racking up 144 yards on six catches with three receiving TDs. Luke Degner had six catches as well for 66 yards and a touchdown.

Markett also took a punt return 83 yards to the end zone, accounting for two TDs on the day. Will Goodman knocked in a field goal from 55 yards in the first quarter, setting a new school record in the process. Goodman broke his own record of 52 yards, of which he set against Grinell in 2022.

Kyle James led the ground game with 94 yards on 13 attempts. Nava also scored on the ground with an 81 yard TD to put the Maroons ahead 21-0. Rhys Bommarito-Logan and Frank Lonergan both found the end zone on the ground late for UChicago.

The Maroons take on Beloit on the road after their bye week on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. CT.
