Football’s Offense Shines in 48-7 win at Beloit

BELOIT, WI-University of Chicago's football program evens their record to 2-2 with a convincing road win at Beloit, 48-7.
 
Rhys Bommarito-Logan got the Maroons on the board with a 1 yard run with 3:51 left in the 1st quarter, completing a 15-play series that covered 75 yards, to put the Maroons up 7-0.
 
Five seconds into the second quarter, Jack Ruff connected with Luke Degner for a 22 yard pass touchdown to bring the score to 14-0.  Less than 15 seconds later, Stirling Sakashita intercepted a Beloit pass at the Beloit 33 and returned it for a pick 6 to bring the score to 21-0.
 
In the fourth quarter, Aden Nava added a 75 yard touchdown reception from Ruff at 10:52 to increase the score to 28-0 at halftime.
 
UChicago continued the pressure in the 3rd quarter. At 11:16, Ruff connected with Ned Stimpson for a 26 yard touchdown and at 6:40 for his first collegiate touchdown. Five minutes later, Ruff connected with Degner for a 17 yard touchdown to bring the score to 41-0 at the end of the third quarter.  
 
Beloit scored early into the 4th quarter on a 20 yard pass to bring the score to 41-7. UChicago closed the game out at 8:29, with a 5 yard run from Kyle James to bring the score to 48-7, which was the final score.
 
Quarterback Jack Ruff was 15 for 22 with 4 touchdowns and 246 passing yards on the day. Kyle James led the ground game with 105 yards rushing with one touchdown on the day on 23 attempts. Aden Nava had 5 receptions for 105 yards and 1 touchdown and Luke Degner had 4 receptions for 69 yards and touch touchdowns. Will Goodman was 6-7 on extra point attempts.
 
Defensively the Maroons had a complete game, with 25 different players recording tackles. William Skowronski and Kourosh Hassibi each had 5, while Sakashita had 3 tackles and the pick 6 interception. Jurgis Schmedlen also blocked a punt in the 1st quarter in addition to his 3 tackles.
 
The Maroons return home on October 7th with a 1:00 PM kickoff against Illinois College.
