CHICAGO – University of Chicago's women's volleyball program cruised to a three-set victory over Illinois Tech on Wednesday evening in its home opener.
The Maroons improved to 3-1, winning by set scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-17 in their first game of 2023 inside the Ratner Athletics Center. As a team, UChicago had 13 players appear in the match and hit .273 with just nine errors and 39 kills.
Thalita Marangon paced the attack with 12 kills at a .393 clip on 28 attempts.
Maggie McInerney chipped in nine kills with one error, hitting .296.
Maya Patel totaled six assists while defenders
Klaudia Barbarossa and
Hillary Cheung combined for 10.
UChicago finished with nine total blocks, led by
Diya Mishra and
Sally North with four and three, respectively.
The Maroons host the Gargoyle Classic this weekend, Sept. 8-9, and take on Colby in their first match on Friday, Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
