(RV) Women's Basketball Dismiss Judges In Road Battle

WALTHAM, Mass. – After knocking off the sixth best team in the country on Sunday, (RV) University of Chicago women's basketball hit the road for the first time during UAA play and took on the Judges of Brandeis. The Maroons offense took care of things in the first half while the defense put the finishing touches on a 12-point win on Friday night outside of Boston.

FINAL SCORE
(RV) UChicago – 65
Brandeis – 53

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • (RV) University of Chicago (10-5, 3-1 UAA) jumped right out to an 8-0 lead before Brandeis (4-11, 0-4 UAA) scored their first basket of the game more than five minutes after the opening tipoff. The Maroons lead would hover close to double digits before the Judges reduced that advantage to just two with a 7-2 run of their own in the final couple of minutes of the quarter.
  • Entering the second with a slight lead, UChicago kicked things back into high gear and would eventually grab their first ten point lead after a Sophia North layup with 6:17 left to go before halftime. That advantage would rise to as much as 13 before settling for a seven-point lead heading into the locker rooms.
  • While the offense carried the first half for Chicago, it was their defense that would have to step up and carry them to victory the rest of the way. The Maroons shooting percentage dipped from a first half average above 50 percent to one that sat in the high 20's in the back half of play.
  • Their style of well-rounded team play worked well however, and the Maroons held the Judges to just 12 points in each quarter which was more than enough to protect their comfortable lead after a slight Brandeis threat in the third period. Points off turnovers was a big key for UChicago as they turned 23 miscues into 26 points in a 12-tally road victory.
