HOLLAND, Mich. – The University of Chicago women's volleyball team battled it out with No. 2 Hope College in an all-out dog fight on Thursday night. The No. 19 Maroons took sets two and four to extend the match to five sets, only the second time this year the Dutch had been forced to game five.
RESULTS
#2 Hope College – 3 (25, 20, 25, 22, 15)
#19 UChicago – 2 (24, 25, 23, 25, 9)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Hope took set one by holding the Maroons to as few attacks as possible, but this hardly told the story for the next sets.
- In set two UChicago came storming back to hit an 8-2 run off of three back-to-back-to-back kills from Diya Mishra. Chicago's early lead was too much for the Dutch to come back as the Maroons took the 25-20 win.
- Sets three, four, and five saw Chicago and Hope trade points back and forth. In no set did one team score more than four points at a time. The defensive pressure the Maroons forced on totaled 78 digs for the night.
- Mishra led all teams with 18 kills. Thalita Marangon finished with 12 as Peyton Minyard added on another six for Chicago. Nicole Martinez recorded three aces on the night as well.
