Volleyball Wins Both at Illinois Tech Tri-Match

CHICAGO – The University of Chicago volleyball team stayed in the windy city for a two-match tournament at the Illinois Institute of Technology. The No.19 Maroons recorded back-to-back wins only drop one set in all seven played.

RESULTS
 St. Norbert – 1 (18, 25, 16, 22)
#19 UChicago – 3 ( 25, 23, 25, 25)

Illinois Tech – 0 (9, 18, 17)
#19 UChicago – 1 (25, 25, 25)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • vs St. Norbert
    • Dominating the first set after taking an early 11-6 lead, the Maroons gained momentum off blocks from Diya Mishra and Gabi Spellings. The Knights tried to march back, but after scoring point 21 Chicago flew on a 5-0 run to close out the set.
    • After much back-and-forth play, St. Norbert was able to jump to a small lead and take set two 25-23. Chicago recorded more kills than the Knights but unfortunately had errors catch up to them.
    • In sets two and three Chicago dominated on both sides of the net. Recording a total of 25 completed attacks allowed them to close out the 3-1 match. Diya Mishra led all teams with 17 kills while Amelia Gibbs finished with 11 of her own.
  • vs Illinois Tech
    • In one of their most controlling matches this year Chicago swept the Scarlet Hawks. Scoring over 30 points more than IIT, UChicago capitalized on every opportunity they've had.
    • In both sets one and three Chicago won by more than eight points, set two was the closest as IIT only lost 25-18.
    • Mishra again led all teams with 12 kills and two blocks. Amelia Gibbs added on eight attacks, while Maggie McInerney recorded seven. Sally North led the Maroons with three blocks.
