PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The University of Chicago volleyball team traveled to Pittsburgh for the last weekend of UAA play to face two top 25 ranked opponents. In both ultra-competitive matches the Maroons fell a few points short.

RESULTS

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • vs #8 WashU
    • The Bears took set one for the early lead over the Maroons. Losing the first by only five points, Chicago came back with a fire lit under them.
    • Set two saw the closest score in the match. After back-to-back kills by Diya Mishra the Maroons jumped out to a 12-7 lead. WashU came back to tie the score at 17, but Chicago closed their hopes to take the 25-23 win.
    • The Maroons took the match's biggest win in the third set with a dominant offensive performance. With WashU leading 9-4 early, Chicago rose back and didn't let the Bears get more than a single point at a time for the rest of the set.
    • Though winning back-to-back sets, the Maroons dropped the final two as the No. 8 Bears took home the win. Mishra led all teams with 20 kills and six blocks. Amelia Gibbs followed closely behind with 15 attacks and another six blocks of her own.
  • vs #17 Case Western Reserve
    • In three of the most intense sets of the year, Chicago fell to the Spartans in a match that extended a single set volleyball score to 30 points.
    • In sets one and two the Maroons were out attacked by only a total of three kills. In the entire match, there was a difference of one point, one kill, one assist, and one dig. It was truly anyone's game.
    • Chicago was not giving up in set three as the Maroons tied it at 25 off a kill from Thalita Marangon. Points were traded back and forth as the teams extended the match at a tie for 29, off some small errors, Chicago fell to the No. 17 Spartans.
    • Marangon led all attackers with 12 kills. She also added two aces and nine digs to her stat sheet. Maggie McInerney was next after recording nine completed attacks and another 14 digs.
