Late Goal Sinks Men's Soccer On Road

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Held scoreless over their last three games, University of Chicago men's soccer was hoping that a trip to Michigan would solve their woes when they took on Calvin. The Maroons were able to net the games first goal and added another in the second half but they couldn't slow down the Knights offense in a 3-2 loss on Wednesday evening.

RESULT
UChicago – 2
Calvin – 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • University of Chicago (5-5) was finally able to break their scoring draught with the first goal of the contest. Nick Lorr snuck one past Calvin's (6-4) keeper in the 35th minute with the assist going to Jadyn Hsieh-Bailey to make it 1-0 Maroons. The score would stay that way when both teams entered the halftime intermission and set things up for what would be a lively second frame.
  • The Knights tied the game shortly after the break but UChicago was quick to respond. Danny Mendoza netted his sixth goal of the year thanks to a nice setup from Kai Walsh to give the lead back to the Maroons with less than 40 minutes to go.
  • Unfortunately, that was the last goal UChicago would score while the Knights had a couple more in them. The home team tied the ballgame less than a minute after the Maroons took back the advantage and would end up netting the game winner in the 86th minute to deal the Maroons their fourth straight loss via a 3-2 score.
