Volleyball Sweeps No.15 North Park University

CHICAGO – The University of Chicago women's volleyball team handed No. 15 North Park University a loss at home as the Maroons swept the Vikings in three sets. In a dominant effort, the Maroons took down their opponents after capitalizing ona .240 attack percentage throughout the match.

RESULTS
#15 North Park – 0 (18. 21. 25)
#23 UChicago – 3 (25, 25, 25)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In their first week of being ranked in the AVCA Top 25, the Maroons proved why they made the list in their takedown of the Vikings.
  • Coming in hot from the first set, Chicago started the match on a 4-0 run off serves from Hillary Cheung. Points were traded back in forth with North Park even taking the lead at one point, but the Maroons  stormed back to take the match by a seven point differential.
  • Set two was the closest game out of the three with the match coming down to the wire. As Chicago set up for match point, the Vikings were able to put another on the board but a kill from Gabi Spellings was just enough for point 25.
  • UC started the next set playing catchup to North Park. Down by two points, Peyton Minyard slammed a ball that opened up the scoring once again for Chicago. They then went on a 12-1 run that put them in perfect position for the win.
  • UChicago's win was their second over a ranked opponent this season.
CHICAGO COMMENTS
  • "Really great win against North Park tonight! It was our first match to cap off the first week of class for our women, so I was happy with how we played, knowing that they've had a tough week. North Park made some good runs and played great defense, but I was proud of our composure and never losing trust that we would win. I thought our setters played really well and did a good job diversifying our offense. Kennedy and Nicole did a great job defensively as well. Excited to prepare for UAA Round Robin #2 next weekend!" – Head coach Mitchell McPartland
