CHICAGO – University of Chicago Men's Basketball closed out the 2024 Midway Classic with a win over Transylvania on Sunday afternoon. In a crowd of almost 900, the Maroons impressive shooting day created too much of a deficit for the Pioneers to come back from. Chicago's perfect 2-0 start shows high potential for what's possible throughout the 24-25 season.
FINAL SCORE
Transylvania – 65
UChicago – 77
HOW IT HAPPENED
- From the tip Chicago rolled right into an early 10-0 lead as a fastbreak three from Eamonn Kenah caused the Transylvania bench to call a timeout. The crowd of students and children from Chicago's southside public schools erupted throughout Ratner.
- The timeout from the Pioneers only did so much as Chicago's offense kept producing. Fast ball movement from Joe Berry and the Maroons allowed the Maroons to find their groove. Shooting over 50% from the field and the three held crushed their opponents defense. Not to mention, in the first Chicago led both teams in rebounds.
- The first half was the best completed half we'd seen from Chicago this season. In two point shots the Maroons went 17-29 for a 58.62% and an exact 50% from the three, going 8-16.
- The Pioneers were not going away easy as they broke out of halftime with a new perspective and were able to cut the lead to five with three minutes left. Chicago put in a new five to bring momentum back to their side and soon Transylvania found themselves in foul trouble. After a bit of back and forth between the two teams, a free throw from DJ Harvey put the Maroons back up by 10. Time expired and Chicago went on for their 2-0 start to the year.
