CHICAGO – University of Chicago women's basketball faced another hometown opponent on Friday night for an overtime thriller. In a game where the Maroons struggled from both sides of the floor, the team showed perseverance and found a way to win.
FINAL SCORE
Concordia Chicago – 52
UChicago - 60
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Finishing the first quarter with five points on the board, Chicago only found themselves down by three. The game foreshadowed a battle of defenses as the early on-court pressure became the deciding factor of the game.
- Heading into halftime, the Maroons went from shooting 9% from the field to now 30%. In no game this season Chicago had been trailing at half. It was a chance for them to show their grit and tested their reaction on how to handle making a comeback.
- Concordia Chicago opened up the third quarter with a momentum that brought them to a six-point lead over the Maroons. Chicago was held to only 10 shots in the quarter but a layup from Kate Gross in the last two minutes showed that something was brewing from them in the fourth.
- Both teams were held to poor shooting days, but found other ways to keep themselves in the game. Chicago's defense held the team together in the fourth as they held the Bobcats to minimal shot chances and capitalizing on the boards.
- As overtime came, Chicago found their offensive groove and took an early five-point lead with less than two minutes left. Kate Gross scored five of Chicago's 10 final points for the 60-52 UChicago win.
