CHICAGO – University of Chicago women's basketball took down their first Top 25 ranked opponent this season in an all-out battle versus Carroll University. Hosting the No. 13 team right before the Thanksgiving break, the (RV) Maroons showed how they're starting to mesh as conference play looms closer.
FINAL SCORE
#13 Carroll University – 70
(RV) UChicago - 81
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Though the Pioneers got on the board first, Chicago came out firing going on a 9-0 lead after Kate Gross drained a jump shot forcing Carroll to call a timeout. With a mixture of smart defensive play and quick offense, the Maroons held Carroll to the fewest first quarter points this season at four.
- With 4:07 left in the second quarter the Pioneers cut the lead to two and Chicago called time. A quick three by Bella Alfaro put the Maroons momentum back in place but the game remained tough as both teams headed into halftime with only three points separating them.
- UChicago finished the rest of the game with a steady lead of 10 points throughout the third and fouth quarters. Attacking strong in the from the begging allowed the Maroons to ride out a high energy. They capitalized on turnovers and finished at the basket. The flow of their offense gave Chicago the edge they needed to win over the Pioneers.
- The Maroons shot 57.1% from the field and 50% from the three. At the line, Chicago went a stellar 19-22 including two 6-6 days from Bri Simpson and Alfaro to close out their fantastic shooting day.
