CHICAGO —The University of Chicago men's basketball team played one of its best games this season against nationally ranked No. 4 Illinois Wesleyan University, but ultimately fell short in its battle against the Titans.
FINAL SCORE
#4 Illinois Wesleyan - 80
UChicago – 74
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In an ultra-exciting game, Chicago broke out to an early lead as Eamonn Kenah drained a three for the last points of Chicago's 14-0 run. The Maroons controlled the momentum, and the Titans were forced to put a fresh new five as they tried to find the spark for a comeback.
- UChicago held a steady lead, even making the deficit as high as 16 points, for the rest of the first half. They capitalized on shooting 52% from the field and kept finding the man with the hot hand. But as time wound down in the first, IWU started to find their rhythm.
- In less than a minute, the Titans tied the game and soon after points were traded between the two teams. The game went on to be tied again a total of seven more times, but in the last four minutes IWU caught speed to force Chicago into playing catchup. IWU went on to win the game 80-74.
- Thomas Kurowski led all teams with 21 points, three steals, and three rebounds. Eamonn Kenah finished with 14 points, going 4-9 from the field and a perfect 4-4 from the three. Chicago ultimately had four players score in double-digits.
