HOW IT HAPPENED
  • From the opening tip, UChicago's offense fired on all cylinders. They opened up a commanding 50-24 lead by halftime, thanks to a scorching 65.6% shooting performance in the first half. The Maroons were especially efficient from beyond the arc, hitting 58.3% of their three-point attempts, and showcased their depth, with strong contributions from multiple players off the bench.
  • Despite the large lead at the half, UChicago kept their focus on maintaining intensity. Though their shooting cooled off in the second half—dropping to 30.3% from the field—they continued to dominate on the boards and play lockdown defense. The Maroons outrebounded Caltech 44-24, with Thomas Kurowski and Dominic Martinelli pulling down key boards.
  • UChicago's bench provided another boost, contributing 46 points overall. The Maroons' defense was just as impactful. The Beavers managed just 1-3 from the free-throw line, further emphasizing UChicago's defensive dominance.
  • Daniel Cochran led the way with 12 points in just 16 minutes of play, shooting 5-7 from the field, including 2-3 from three-point range. His quick scoring bursts helped keep Caltech on their heels throughout the game.
