CHICAGO – University of Chicago men's basketball kicked off their last homestand when they welcomed Brandeis to a busy Ratner Athletic Center. The Maroons and Judges were almost exact equals in the box score but the visitors were able to pull away at the end by taking advantage of some UChicago miscues in a five point home loss.
FINAL SCORE
Brandeis – 76
UChicago – 71
HOW IT HAPPENED
- University of Chicago (13-10, 5-7 UAA) and Brandeis (14-9, 5-7 UAA) proved why they have identical conference records in the first half when they went blow for blow in the score column. Substantial leads were hard to come by in the opening period and even when Chicago did amass an eight-point lead, the Judges reduced it to zero in under two minutes.
- The Maroons held the advantage for most of the first 20 minutes however and went into halftime with a two-point lead thanks to six from Joe Berry in the closing portions of the frame. However, the same exact story would almost repeat itself once the teams returned to the court but points off turnovers would start to get costly for the Maroons.
- UChicago stayed just a step or two ahead of Brandeis until 5:55 left in the game. That's the moment when the Judges took over the lead for good and eventually grow it to as large as seven before Berry netted the last of his team leading 19 points in their five-tally defeat.
