(RV) Men's Basketball Blows By Carnegie Mellon

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – (RV) University of Chicago men's basketball was back at it on Sunday and looking to start fresh on a new winning streak when they took on host Carnegie Mellon. The Maroons offense exploded over the 40-minute contest and ended up one point away from the century mark as they took down the Tartans by 30.

FINAL SCORE
(RV) UChicago – 99
Carnegie Mellon – 69

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • (RV) University of Chicago made sure not to get off to a slow start for the second game in a row and challenged Carnegie Mellon in every facet of the contest during the opening 20 minutes.
  • The Maroons shot 59 percent from the field in the period, and while the defense still allowed the Tartans to make their shots 53 percent of the time, UChicago sunk seven of their 23 field goals from behind the three-point line. Four of Thomas Kurowski's career best six trays in the game came in the first frame, as well as 15 of his game leading 27 tallies. The Maroons also excelled in second chance points and outpaced CMU 17-4 in the category as UC took a 19-point lead into the break.
  • UChicago's offense still preformed at a very high level in the second half and hit five more from long distance but it wasn't just them that secured the victory. The Maroons defense also stepped up and reduced the Tartans shooting percentage by almost half as Chicago would roll to the 30 point win and secured their largest single game point total since they scored 100 against Kalamazoo back on December 7th, 2019.
