ROCHESTER, N.Y. – (RV) University of Chicago men's basketball traveled to New York to continue UAA play against Rochester on Friday night. The contest saw the Maroons and Yellowjackets trade the lead back and forth like they were on a teeter totter but UChicago's shooting went cold down the stretch as they had to settle for a 76-74 defeat.
FINAL SCORE
(RV) UChicago – 74
Rochester – 76
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tonight's slugfest between the (RV) University of Chicago (13-8, 5-5 UAA) and the University of Rochester (10-11, 4-6 UAA) got off to a high scoring start as each team shot well above 50 percent from the field. Four of UChicago's made baskets in the frame came from behind the arc, including one from Thomas Kurowski who gave the Maroons the lead with his successful long-range attempt with 12 seconds left to go in the period.
- The two ballclubs continued to mirror each other in every statistical category in the second stanza as well which is one of the reasons why the lead was traded back and forth 15 different times over the course of 40 minutes of action. The Maroons were able to amass a lead as large as seven points early in the second but found themselves down by five with just over seven and a half left to play.
- UChicago continued to battle and grabbed their last advantage of the contest with 3:04 remaining but their 74-72 lead would not hold up. The Maroons wouldn't get a basket to fall the rest of the way, and while most of the Yellowjackets shots missed as well, a jumper with two minutes left and a dunk with just seven seconds remaining gave the home team the two point win.
CHICAGO COMMENTS
- Bryce Hopkins led the team in all major statistical categories this evening. He also eclipsed the 500 rebound mark and now sits at 501 after bringing down eight boards tonight. The fourth-year student-athlete also sits just 35 points away from 1,000 in his career.
