Baseball Falls To WashU In Series Finale

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – University of Chicago baseball headed into Sunday's action looking to salvage a contest in their three-game series against WashU on the road. While the Maroons bats kept them in the game early, the Bears offense resumed what they were doing on Saturday and downed UChicago 12-8.

RESULT
UChicago – 8
WashU – 12

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • University of Chicago (1-6) grabbed their first lead of the weekend in the game's opening at bats when Devan Johnson singled to drive in Michael Gladden. The Maroons slim margin would hold up until the bottom of the third when WashU (9-3) plated two.
  • UChicago evened things up in the top of the fourth with a Jack Sharp single but that would be the last time the Maroons would have a share of the lead. The Bears scored three in the bottom half of the same frame then added one in the fifth and six in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
  • The Maroons tried to rally though and drove in five during their last trip to the plate but the comeback effort would fall short in what ended up being a four run loss and a series sweep at the hands of WashU.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
  • Eric Rindner: 1-for-3, sacrifice fly, three RBIs
  • Brian Cordero: 2-for-4, run scored
WHO'S ON DECK
The Maroons will meet up with regional foe UW-Whitewater on Tuesday in Pensacola, Fla. That single game contest will have a first pitch of 3:00 pm eastern.
