CHICAGO – No. 17 University of Chicago women's lacrosse was looking to go a perfect 3-0 at home to start the season when they welcomed Babson to close out their opening homestand. The Maroons led at halftime, but the Beavers aggressive offensive attack paid off as they came from behind to deal UChicago their first loss of the year.
RESULT
Babson – 13
No. 17 UChicago – 9
HOW IT HAPPENED
- No. 17 University of Chicago (2-1) responded nicely after Babson (2-1) opened the contest with a goal less than three minutes in. The Maroons proceeded to rattle off five straight tallies over two different frames, three from Wynne Boggan and two from Jill Hooey, to take a 5-1 lead. The Beavers would get a couple back, but the Maroons still headed into the locker room up 6-3 at halftime.
- That advantage was quickly erased, however. The UChicago offense was blanked in the third quarter which allowed Babson to use their five goals in the stanza to take an 8-6 lead with 15 minutes left to play.
- Four straight Beaver goals only enhanced the visitors lead and put the Maroons down by five with just over four minutes left to play. Hooey and Jane Chen each netted a goal in the closing minute, the latter of which allowed them to pull within four, but it wasn't enough in the Maroons first loss of the 2024 campaign.
CHICAGO COMMENTS
- Today's contest served as the first ever meeting between the two teams.
