COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Chicago women's lacrosse spring break hasn't gone as planned with their first contest in Colorado Springs getting canceled, but the Maroons were still hoping to salvage the excursion with a win over host Colorado College. Unfortunately, a big first half from the Tigers was too much for UChicago to overcome in a ten-goal loss on Saturday.
RESULT
No. 18 UChicago – 16
Colorado College – 26
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The contest didn't get off to the easiest of starts for No. 18 University of Chicago (2-2). The Maroons allowed Colorado College (3-3) to score the games first three goals and were down 6-1 less than five minutes in.
- A 6-2 Maroons run with multiple goals from Evelina Swigart and Peyton McGuire got them back within one with about 13 minutes left before halftime, but the Tigers took back the momentum and led 18-11 heading into the intermission.
- The only frame in which UChicago outscored their hosts was the third, but they were only able to shave a single tally off the Tigers advantage even after multiple strikes from McGuire and Lulu Hardy. Five straight Colorado College goals in the fourth put the contest on ice and pushed the Maroons to a .500 record on the season in a 26-16 loss.
CHICAGO COMMENTS
- This is the Maroons first loss to the Tigers, though last year's contest had to be settled in overtime at Stagg Field in a 14-13 battle. Overall, UChicago is 2-1 against Colorado College all-time.
- Colorado College held the advantage in most of the team stats including a 27-19 lead in draw controls.
