Baseball's Florida Swing Ends With Loss To Sewanee

PENSACOLA, Fla. – University of Chicago baseball looked to wrap up their spring break trip in sunny Florida with another neutral site battle against Sewanee. The Maroons stayed close the entire contest and tried to rally in the ninth but came up short in the Tigers 6-4 victory.

RESULTS
Sewanee – 6
UChicago – 4

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • University of Chicago (1-8) was put up against a 2-0 deficit after Sewanee's (7-8) top of the first but was able to cut their opponents advantage in half during their side of the same frame with a Jackson Slipock leadoff home run down the left field line.
  • The Tigers were able to get that run back in the top of the third however and added two more to their lead in the fifth. The Maroons wouldn't back down though and were able to cut their deficit down to 5-3 with an Erik Rindner single that plated both Slipock and Jack Sharp in the bottom of the seventh.
  • Down by three entering their last at-bats after a Sewanee run in the eighth, UChicago attempted a comeback starting with a Devan Johnson fielders' choice that plated Slipock for the third time in the contest. Unfortunately, the game would come to an end on the very same play when the Maroons tried to push another across home plate and had to settle for the two run loss.
CHICAGO COMMENTS
  • Wednesday was the first time in each team's history that they faced off against each other.
