CLEVELAND, Ohio – It was a cold day in Cleveland but that didn't stop University of Chicago baseball from playing two. The Maroons struck right with (RV) Case Western in game one and tried to rally in game two but couldn't grab a win against the Spartans on Saturday.
RESULTS
UChicago – 1
(RV) Case Western Reserve – 2
UChicago – 4
(RV) Case Western Reserve – 7
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game One
- University of Chicago (1-11) opened up the scoring in the four-game weekend set with (RV) Case Western Reserve (12-5) in the top of the third when Jack Sharp came around to score on a wild pitch after reaching via a walk and getting to third after two other pitches sailed by the CWRU catcher.
- The Spartans tied things up the very next inning however with a single up the middle and eventually took the slim one run lead in the fifth after a base hit through the left side.
- The Maroons got the tying runners on in both the sixth and seventh but couldn't push one across home plate in the 2-1 loss to start the day.
- Game Two
- Unfortunately, the lead was never UChicago's to hold in game two. The Spartans began the contest with a four spot in the bottom of the first and added two more in the second and one in the fourth.
- The Maroon & White tried to rally though. A Brady Miller single in the fifth pushed home one of two runs in the inning and Chicago would grab another pair of tallies in the sixth behind a Jackson Slipock single and Miller bases loaded walk.
- Trailing by three and down to their last three outs, UChicago started off the seventh with a double and a walk but an infield fly and two strikeouts stopped the rally and forced them to settle for the 7-4 defeat.
