CLEVELAND, Ohio – University of Chicago baseball was back at it in Cleveland and took on non-conference but familiar foe (RV) Case Western Reserve for two more to wrap up their four game set. The Maroons held the lead in each contest, but the Spartan bats were too much as they dropped another two to end the weekend.
RESULTS
UChicago – 3
(RV) Case Western Reserve – 6
UChicago – 2
(RV) Case Western Reserve - 6
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game One
- The first game of the day was an evenly matched contest early on. University of Chicago (1-13) scored two in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead off a Michael Gladden double and Erik Rindner single and grabbed another in the fourth to tie the game at 3-3 after (RV) Case Western Reserve (14-5) scored a pair in their half of the third.
- Unfortunately, the run the Maroons plated in the fourth would be their last of the contest. The Spartans pushed across two in the fifth and one in the sixth to take the 6-3 lead which would end up being the final score after nine innings of play.
- Game Two
- UChicago again had the lead in game two with a run in their first two trips to the plate but a five-run bottom of the second for CWRU gave them an advantage the Maroons wouldn't be able to cut down.
- The Spartans added another in the third and a pitchers' duel ensued for the final six innings of the ballgame. The Maroon & White collected nine hits in total but only two runs for their efforts as they close out the four-game series without a victory.
