WASHINGTON, D.C. – No. 22 University of Chicago lacrosse headed to the nation's capital for the first of two contests against east coast teams. No. 4 Salisbury was waiting for them to start the trip, and while the Maroons put together a solid effort, the Sea Gulls offense was too much for them in a 19-11 loss on Saturday afternoon.
RESULT
No. 22 UChicago – 11
No. 4 Salisbury – 19
HOW IT HAPPENED
- No. 22 University of Chicago (3-3) scored the first goal in their game against No. 4 Salisbury (7-2) but that would be the only time they led in Saturday afternoon's contest on the east coast. The Sea Gulls scored the next two tallies and although the Maroons would tie the game with a Peyton McGuire strike, the next four would come from the designated visitors.
- The Sea Gulls attack continued to overwhelm the Maroons defense for the rest of the first half and UChicago saw themselves down 10-4 by the time the initial 30 minutes had ticked off the clock.
- The Maroon & White did a better job at keeping pace in the second half, including their most productive quarter in the third with four goals from Jill Hooey, Lulu Hardy Grace Hopkins, and Evelina Swigart going towards their total. Still, even with an effort that almost doubled their first half production, the Maroons couldn't gain any ground on Salisbury in an eight-goal defeat to begin their brief road swing.
