#22 Lacrosse Overpowers Hope On The Road

HOLLAND, Mich. – No. 22 University of Chicago women's lacrosse hit the road one last time and put a bow on their three-game road swing against Hope looking to snap their two-game losing skid. The Maroons took control of the contest against the Flying Dutch from the opening draw and never looked back in a 25-8 win in Michigan on Saturday.

RESULT
No. 22 UChicago – 25
Hope – 8

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Eight of the first ten goals in the contest were scored by No. 22 University of Chicago (4-4) and served as a good indicator for how the ballgame against Hope (4-4) was going to go. The Maroons led 9-2 by the end of the first quarter, enacted the running clock with 7:53 left before halftime, and took a 16-4 advantage into the locker rooms.
  • The goal scoring in the second half slowed down a tad from the frantic pace it had in the first two frames but UChicago still outscored the Flying Dutch 9-4 in the last 30 minutes of play. Four Maroon student-athletes (Alexis Veldhuis, Peyton McGuire, Lulu Hardy, and Elizabeth Fitzgerald) all scored three goals while Olivia Escoffery and Jane Chen led all players with five total points. Jill Hooey also pitched in with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
  • The Maroons outshot Hope 44-21 and were perfect with 15 clean clears. Ground balls also went in the favor of UC 18-5 and they were successful on five of their eight free position shots in the 17 goal victory on the road.
