(RV) Lacrosse Opens CCIW Play With Blowout Win

CHICAGO – (RV) University of Chicago kicked off conference play by welcoming Illinois Wesleyan to a sunny Stagg Field on Saturday afternoon. The Maroons scored early and often, putting the Titans away just minutes into their first CCIW win of the 2024 season.

RESULT
Illinois Wesleyan – 2
(RV) UChicago – 26

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • (RV) University of Chicago (5-4, 1-0 CCIW) picked up where they left off last season in conference play and took down another local foe in a blowout. The Maroons, a team that allowed just 13 goals in five games last year in CCIW play, put up 26 tallies against Illinois Wesleyan (5-6, 0-1 CCIW) at Stagg Field.
  • The game winning goal came with 10:49 left to go in the first quarter when Jane Chen set up Olivia Escoffery for her second straight strike and UChicago would keep pouring it on to lead by 12 after 15 minutes of play. By the time the intermission rolled around, the Maroon & White were up 18-1.
  • The Maroons defense allowed just another lone tally in the second half as they were able to spread some time around with such a massive advantage over the Titans. They allowed just five shots to IWU, three of which were stopped by goalie Rachel Keefe. UChicago was also 13-for-14 in clears and forced 14 of Illinois Wesleyan's 17 turnovers in their third 26 goal game of the season.
