ST. LOUIS, Mo. – University of Chicago baseball was back in action for the first time since returning from California but hit the road again to take on familiar foe WashU. HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game One
- University of Chicago (1-5) got off to a rough start against WashU (8-3) on Saturday. Game one saw the Maroons down by six after one round of at bats for each team and the Bears didn't stop there. They scored nine more in the last four innings of the run rule shortened contest.
- The Maroons managed just two hits, both of which came from the top of the lineup thanks to the efforts of Jackson Slipock and Braden Jirovec but couldn't push any runs across in a 15-0 shutout loss.
- Game Two
- The second contest of the day got off to a less rocky start. Maroons pitching was able to silence the WashU bats for the first two frames before they woke up for seven runs in the middle innings.
- The Maroons pushed across their first run of the afternoon in the top of the fifth when Brady Miller drove home Jirovec with a single up the middle but that would account for the lone UChicago run in the contest.
- The Bears would manage to push across four more in the seventh to enact the ten run rule and sweep the afternoon's contests.
