Early Offense Leads Baseball To Series Win Over Lawrence

CHICAGO – J. Kyle Anderson Field was once again busy on Sunday as University of Chicago baseball completed their three-game series against Lawrence. The Maroons offense was productive early and secured their second win in three games over the conference leading Vikings on a beautiful day in Chicago.

RESULTS
Lawrence – 6
UChicago – 12

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Just like in game two yesterday, University of Chicago (9-16, 8-3 MWC) got the jump on Lawrence (20-8, 12-2 MWC) early in the contest. The Maroons pushed two runs across in the bottom of the first off a Will Benner double and got another pair in the bottom of the third thanks to a two-run blast from Jack Goldstein after Lawrence had taken a brief lead in the top half of the inning.
  • However, it was the next frame that UChicago did the most damage in. Less than 24 hours after having a seven-run inning, the Maroons did the same thing with four runs coming across via an error or wild pitch. The only RBIs in the stanza went to Goldstein who started off the action with a two-run single.
  • The bullpen played a pivotal role in the victory after they took over for starter Bailey Jackson. Phil Hogan got the win with two scoreless innings in relief while Grant Tenuta, Kason Pelz, and Sam Klanot also helped lock down the 12-6 victory and the series win over the Vikings.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
  • Jack Goldstein: 2-for-5, two runs scored, home run, four RBIs
  • Phil Hogan: 2.0 innings pitched, no hits/runs allowed, two strikeouts
WHO'S ON DECK
Next up for the Maroons will be a doubleheader at Ripon on Tuesday. First pitch from Ripon, Wis. is slated for 1:00 pm.
