RIPON, Wis. – University of Chicago baseball was back on the diamond at Ripon College just a few days after taking two of three from the first place Vikings of Lawrence. The Maroons tried to move their winning streak to three but early runs from the Red Hawks stopped UChicago in their tracks during a 6-3 loss.
RESULT
UChicago – 3
Ripon – 6
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Game One
- University of Chicago (9-17, 8-4 MWC) spotted Ripon (9-14, 6-6 MWC) a run in each of the first three innings and were down by a trio of tallies before they finally got on the board in the top of the fourth with a sacrifice fly from Richard Lu to make it 3-1 Red Hawks.
- The home team kept their bats going and added two more in the bottom of the fifth and another insurance run in the eighth to force the Maroons to enter their last at-bats down 6-1.
- UChicago tried to rally and got their second run of the game on an error from the Ripon shortstop that scored Lu. Braden Jirovec then singled through the left side to score Eddie McCarthy to cut the Red Hawks lead in half. However, Ripon would get the last two outs with the trying run at the dish to win the contest 6-3.
- Game Two
- The second game of the day was suspended due to rain in the top of the ninth inning. UChicago leads 4-3 and will defend that one run advantage when the game resumes prior to their regularly scheduled nine-inning contest in Chicago on April 24th at 1:00 pm.
